  1. All the Institutions involved in the production of Fish Tank. List them with a summary of what their contribution to the film was. Fish tank is a low budget film directed by Andrea Anorld. It was filmed in Mardyke Estate. It is a BBC funded film.
  2. Two other Independent British Film production companies – their “brand”, as well as current and previous productions. The annual British Academy Film Awards and British film institute and BBC films.
  3. Out of the three Production Companies you have researched, which do you see as most successful and why? I think the best film industry is the BBC as they have produced numerous of recognised work such as Fish tank.
  4. How much Fish Tank cost to produce (it’s budget) £1000
  5. Film budgets – find 5 films made for £5 million pounds or less – what types of films are feasible on this budget? The Blair Witch Project and Deep Throat.
  6. How was Fish Tank funded? It was funded by the LimeLight Communication.
  7. Research one other way that British films are funded. Are there any similarities or differences? The similarities are that while your watching the movie you feel that not much money was put into it.
  8. What is the target audience for Fish Tank? Teenagers.
  9. Research the mainstream 16–25 youth cinema market and decide which 3 genres are most targeted at them and justify your decisions with your research. Most of the genres watched by youths are action, romance and horror.  This because females are really attracted to romance and males are attracted to action. Horror is a genre that both of the genders can relate to and feel attracted to.
  10. Who is the main distributor of Fish Tank?  IFC (Independednt film channel)
  11. What is the role of a film distributor? Are there any differences between distribution in the US and UK? They promote and are in charge of the marketing of the film.
  12. How was Fish Tank promoted (when it was released in 2009)? Trailers and print ads.
  13. Compare this with a big budget blockbuster. What are the main similarities and differences? The big budget movie gets noticed by the audience within days, a low budget movie needs to be recognised for its quality and if it doesn't have quality it won't be known.
  14. Analyse the trailers for 2 different films (from different genres). Are there any differences in the way they hook the audience into the narrative and pose questions that the film will answer? Identify at least 2 similarities and 2 differences.
The two trailers I chose are: Silent hill and Titanic. The differences in these two videos are that silent hill creates supence and makes the audience want to learn more about the movie. However, in Titanic the audience want to know about th ending of the tragic love story. Silent hill creates supspence and Titanic creates excitement. The similarities are that both trailers make the audience want to learn more about the story and the characters. Both the trailers make the audience interested and catch their curiosity.
  1. How do the trailers for your other films balance plot and spectacle? Identify at least 2 similarities and 2 differences.  I think the trailers for my chosen my movies balance the plot really well. Throughout the movie every scene from the trailer appears and makes sence. The audience are already given hits about the movies in the trailers and half way through the movie they realise that every expection of the movie turned out to be real. The differences include that some silent hill doesn't exactly give as much information about the movie like titanic. After watching the titanic trailer the audience know everything that's going to happen, in Silent Hill this is very different.
  2. Think about the certificate of Fish Tank (15 certificate). Research film certification and outline what is deemed acceptable for this certificate. What is the difference between a 15 certificate and an 18 certificate?  The differene are that 15 certificate is roughly suitabloe for kids at that age and watching a 18 certificate isn't encouraged. A 18 certificate means that people aged 18 are encouraged to watch it and not any youngers, this could be because of innapropiate behaviour.
