Who are the key institutions involved in promoting the film and how are they involved?

The main distributors for Ill Manors include Revolver Entertainment and Benelux film distributors.   Revolver Entertainment is a marketing-lead, all rights film distribution company. Founded in 1997, the company has operations in both London and Los Angeles. Benelux Film Distributors (BFD) is a joint venture of various independent film distributors and markets a wide range of films in Cinemas in the N Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.Ill Manors" was released as the album's lead single on 25 March 2012. The track was premiered by Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1 on 27 February 2012.
ll Manors was released in the Netherlands on 30 August 2012 by Benelux Film Distributors and was also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Festival do Rio in September 2012. Ill Manors was released on DVD on October 8, 2012, and contains footage that was not broadcast at cinemas. Ill Manors was greenlit for production in 2009 as part of the Film London Microwave scheme. The trailer for Ill Manors was first aired on The Guardian's website on 3 May 2012, whilst the first film poster was first unveiled by Empire magazine's website on 8 May 2012.Digital Spy also unveiled two further promotional posters on 18 May and 7 June 2012. promote the album, Atlantic Records partnered with live stream production company LoveLive to deliver a live stream event of the album launch party to YouTube. This movie was also promoted via viral marketing.  Videos of the trailer and music videos were put on YouTube and the movie was promoted through Facebook and twitter.

How do they use each platform tor each their target audience?

The film is promoted using print media. One of the ways the film is promoted is through bill boards. Bill boards help the film become more known as bill boards are able to reach many people. Another way the film is promoted through print media is using magazines and film reviews. Film reviews either recommend or discourage people from watching the film. If its recommending people to watch the movie, it can increase the amount of people that are attracted to the film and that go and watch it. It is important that the film isn't only promoted through e-media. This is because the are people who do not use the internet, so they need to be informed through print media. Print media can reach far more people. The film is also promoted through broadcast media. This is as its promoted through things such as DVDs, interviews, TV and radio programmes. Ben Drew has attended many interviews and been to many programmes to promote the film. He is increasing the audience's knowledge about the film. The film is also promoted through Broadcast Media. This is through interviews so the audience can increase their knowledge about Ben Drew and his work.  He was invited to many programmes and TV shows, this is all done in order to increase his popularity so the audience would be able to be more aware about his work.

How do they use technological developments to provide new audience experiences?
Love Film and Netflix are used to promote the film and to help the audience watch the film at home at their comfort. Social Networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter are used to interact with the audience. It helps to receive feedback about the film and to know the opinion of the audience. The audience can also talk about how they think other productions should be. Networking sites can be very helpful when it comes down to interacting with the audience. It helps increase the audience's knowledge of the film. It helps the production team learn more about what the audience would possibly want to see in future productions

Has piracy impacted on the construction/ distribution of the film/DVD?
Piracy has had a major impact on the film industry for years. Film are recorded illegally then sold for cheap in order to get a profit. I don't think that piracy has impacted on this film in particular. It takes place with Hollywood movies as people are willing to buy it for cheap illegally rather than cheaper films. This is why I personally don't think that this film was particularly effected by piracy.

Now think of how the institutions behind the film are working across the 3 platform?

Print- Print media is very essential when it comes to attracting adults, who are part of the Ill Manors audience. Most of adults are still attracted to Print Media as they feel like its something they need to take part in. This is why they are more likely to be attracted by print media.
Broadcasting: Using this platform to reach the audience is an important. I think its very essential and effective. I think that the TV and radio are able to reach the target audience. Men from the age of 18-35 are more likely to watch broadcast and to be attracted by it. They would be interested in broadcast such as the Jonathan Ross Show
E-Media-  I think that this platform is also essential. This is because the audience for the film are mainly active on the internet. They are more likely to use the internet far more than any other age group, so promoting the film through e-media is very important as they can see and get attracted to the movie.

How are the characters/ stars in the film represented in?
Print Media-
This magazine shows some images from behind the scenes. "A lot of people outside this environment don't believe it exists," he continues. "So in the film, rather than glamorise it, I'm trying to say to people this is the true, dark reality. This is what happens. It's not cool. No drug dealer really has the last laugh' In this quote the audience feel that Ben Drew is a genuine person and that he is actually trying to show the real 'dark' side of this.

Broadcast media- taking the Tedx Lecture as an example Ben Drew is represented as a respectable man. He looks like someone who takes the council kid’s to heart. He talks about how he wants to give council kid a chance. He mentions how they are seem badly due to the media and often described as ‘chavs.’ He comes out in the lecture like a white man who truly takes these kids as an importance to society. This lecture makes him look more mature as he is talking to a slightly older audience.
He talks in way that makes the audience feel that he is  genuinely concerned about these kids. He mentions that the reason why they are the way they are is because they came from 'negative family environments' and that is the reason why they are the way they are. Ben Drew is trying to be a father figure to the kids.

  http://www.illmanors.com/
E-media- on the website of Ill Manors, Ben Drew is represented slightly differently than the lecture. He seems more like an ambiguous man who wants his work to get recognised. Similarly, he also talks in a manner that makes the audience believe that he takes young teenagers to heart and that he truly cares for them."My reason for making this film is to show that there is a lot we can learn when we know all the facts; when we explain the why – not just the 'what' and 'how' From this quote we can understand that Ben Drew truly wants to show the world that there is more to everything.

Now look at what values and ideologies are communicated within these representation
There are many ideologies represented through the platforms. Ben Drew is represented as having many values such as putting teenager. Ben Drew is represented as having concerns about the future of these kids. He is represented as white man who tries to make this place a better place for council state kids. The audience are able to represent themselves. They are able to put their says and ideas about the film and Ben Drew work as either comments if it's through Facebook or tweets if its through twitter. This gives Ben Drew an opportunity to see what people feel about his work and to see what they think he could do to improve his work. This helps Ben Drew improve and satisfy the audience more and more. This is only possibly done through social networking, which is a very essential method to be used for the promotion of the production.

Now think of how the film communicates with audiences across the 3 platform?
The actors and characters are represented differently. The main character is represented as having weaknesses unlike the other character- this shown when he takes the baby out of the train to help the baby. Different characters are represented differently. I think that Ben Drew is trying to reinforce the ideologies and by reinforcing them he is challenging them in a very intelligent manner. He makes the black characters in the film be the ones involved with drugs and having a thug life. Surprisingly, in this film, the white characters are also the drugs dealers with this lifestyle. I think what Ben Drew is trying to say that regardless of skin colour, many people are involved with drugs and have this kind of life style and it is not because of the fact that they are black. This movie challenges the dominant ideologies and shows the 'dark' side of everything. He shows that in the society we live in many people are involved with this lifestyle and its not because of the colour. It is because the society is neglecting the needs of these people.

THIRD SLIDE

3. How do the audience access the text across the 3 platforms?

Who are the target audience and how do you know?
The target audience for Ill Manors are mainly males from the age of 18-35. This is due to the amount of swearing that goes on in this film. The swearing isn't appropriate for people younger than the age of 18. The reason why this film is more suitable to men than women is because of the inappropriate scenes which women would find rather vulgar.
How is the film promoted to its audience through:
Print- Print media is very essential when it comes to attracting adults, who are part of the Ill Manors audience. Most of adults are still attracted to Print Media as they feel like its something they need to take part in. This is why they are more likely to be attracted by print media
What type of audience does each platform reach?
Print media- it reaches an older audience, mainly males as they older males are more likely to keep up with the print media.
Broadcasting- Its more likely to reach middle aged people as they are more likely to take interests in programme's and radio channels.
E-media- more likely to reach a younger audience. This is because a younger audience is more likely to use the internet and keep up with any developments
Who are the producers aiming to appeal to through this platform and how are they doing it?
I think that the producers are mainly trying to appeal to a younger and middle aged audience. I think that this is because a young and middle aged audience is the main audience for the film so they need to focus on them and try to attract them. The producers are putting far more pressure on the E-media and broadcasts, as it will reach the main target audience for the film.
Does this platform allow the audiences to participate or interact with the film? How?
I think that these two platforms allow the audience to interact with the film, mainly e-media. This is as they can put up comments about the film and give ratings. they can see the Ill Manors video and give responds to how they viewed the film, and give their opinions on the film. This is very helpful as the producers needs to see how the audience view the film and their opinions on the film. In other words, the public's view on the film.

Now think of how the producers are communicating with the audiences across the 3 platforms?
I think there are differences in the audience gratifications offered across the 3 platform. There are different audience. For example print media is for the older audience as they are more likely to comprehend from print media rather than anything else. E-media is essential to get to a younger audience as they are more likely to get attracted to the internet and things that include the internet. Broadcast is more likely to get to get to a middle-age audience as they are more likely to keep up with radio channel's and programme's.
Are the producers widening their appeal through their cross platform approach?
I think that they are as can reach different audiences, such a younger audience, middle aged audience, and an older audience. Different usage of platforms are able to reach different audience to increase the public's knowledge about Ill Manors and Ben Drew's work.

Audience theories you could research and applyThe demographic audience that's being targeted for this film is C1-E due to the violent scenes and the sexual language  This film is mainly targeted for males. The ethnic group that's targeted is black and white as this film would fit both. The psychographic group thats aimed at is reformers, mainstreamers, and  strugglers   This is because this movie demonstrates escapism, security and entertainment.

SECOND SLIDE

How are the texts in the three platforms constructed?
Print:

Ill Manors is promoted through promotional posters. Many posters are sent around to increase the audience. The posters function is to let more people know about the film so they can become attracted to the movie and maybe go watch it/ Purchase the DVD. This poster shows the film's characters, the films name and the ratings. All these are included to let the audience know facts about the movie to increase their interest towards the film. Posters are very important and essential when it comes to promoting a film through Print Media

Broadcast (TV/RADIO)

One of the way Ben Drew is promoting his film is through Broadcast. He attended many interviews and shows. He was doing this in order to increase the public's knowledge about him. What he is trying to achieve by attending so many interviews and shows is to increase the audiences knowledge so they can look into his work such as Ill Manors. This helps the audience learn more about the film and watch it. By doing this, the film increases in the viewers and becomes more popular.

E-media
The website is used to promote the film through E-media. The website helps the audience gain some knowledge about the film Ill Manors, It features many things such as the trailer, which shows the films trailer to let the audience see some scenes from the movie that are very likely in attracting them. By clicking on the synopsis, you are able to read the storyline of the film, this is included to help the audience know what they are gonna watch beforehand. There's also a link to Ill Manors Facebook and twitter website. This is for the audience to keep up with Ben Drew's work and find out more about the film.

Now look at each platform individually:
What type of media language does the platform use? Identify the codes and convention of that platform
Print media will give a review of a new film, provide information about the cast, certificate and will often include an interview with a star/ director. Most of the print media productions, such as magazines, include the audience's reaction and critics towards this film. This is to help the audience know the reactions of others so they can judge the film and think if they want to watch the film. There are also pictures of the movie and maybe pictures from behind the scenes, this is included to make the audience want to read more about the article and see how the production of the film was going. The audience who are most likely to be following what articles say are more of an older audience. This is because they are more likely to be effected by it.
Broadcast is another method to promote the film. Broadcast includes radio channels, programmes and interviews. This helps the audience who are not exactly following print media to find out about Ben Drew and to find out more about the film. A more younger audience would be attracted by broadcasts, so this platform and method of promotion is more likely to attract a more younger audience.
The last platform is E-media. E-media is a method of promotion through the internet. This could include the Ill Manors website: http://www.illmanors.com/, blogs, online articles. This platform is very essential as in the society we live in, nothing can spread information faster than anything else.
Now think of how the film is being promoted across the 3 platforms: What are the similarities?
What are the differences?
Similarities: They all have the same functions, to promote the film. They all reach different aged group audience. They are all affective in different ways. They all increase the audience's knowledge about the film and Ben Drew. They all help the audience's reputation improve and helps the audience consciousness  about the film. They are all made by the producers to help the audience learn more about the film. They begun to go around before the film so that people knew about the film before it was out. Differences: Print media is more likely to reach an older   audience. E-media is more likely to reach an younger audience. Broadcast is more likely to reach an middle-aged audience and maybe a young audience as well. They are all different platforms used to reach a different kind of audience in order to increase the audience knowledge about the film and to teach them about Ben Drews values and ideas about the society we live in.
